Sensitive and secret information relating to the country’s security have been found from arrested Brahmos engineer Nishant Aggarwal’s personal computer, laptop and mobile phone which should not have come out of the defence organisation where he was working, the probe agencies have found.
He was arrested yesterday on the suspicion of spying for Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI). Aggarwal is suspected of falling for a honey trap laid by a Pakistani intelligence operative, who in the guise of a woman got him hooked and part with technical designs pertaining to the missile. The agencies monitoring his profile have found some suspicious women on his friend list. While Aggarwal was arrested in Nagpur, two others were arrested from Kanpur and Agra, respectively.In the court, the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Tuesday said a ‘PDF file’ had been found on his laptop that contained documents which should not have been there. The documents are highly sensitive in nature and these have been made public through his social media account. The court granted a 3-day transit remand to take him to Lucknow.
Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorism Squad Inspector General Aseem Arun said a laptop of the engineer has been seized from his family home in Roorkee (Uttarakhand) which is being brought to Lucknow for further investigation. Aggarwal was posted in Nagpur and working on the integration of the BrahMos missile — a hypersonic weapon. The Brahmos Aerospace is joint venture between India and Russia.Aggarwal had been awarded the Young Scientist award in 2017. He had been working with Brahmos Aerospace since July 31, 2013.
