Maoists eliminate cousins labelling them police ‘informers’ - Times of India

Nagpur: Samaru Gulatres (450) and his cousin Nirmal Gulatres (35) were allegedly shot dead by Maoists suspecting them to be police informers. Their bodies were found on the Kosmi-Markegaon road near the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border on Saturday. The cousins had returned to their village from Navegaon near Gadchiroli town, where they were residing since eight years, on January 29.
According to sources, the Maoists felt Samaru and Nirmal were special police officers and had come to the village to collect information. Gadchiroli SP Shailesh Balkawade has said that they were not associated with the police. The cousins were kidnapped from Kosmi village on Friday.

In the last two weeks, Maoists have killed seven tribals including three from Kasnasur where the security forces had inflicted heavy casualties on them last year. With the police making dents into Maoist strongholds, the Reds are targeting villagers to instill fear in them and recapturing their areas.

Police sources said Samaru was a resident of Kosmi and Nirmal was from Mulumetta, which are closely located hamlets under the jurisdiction of Sawargaon police post close to the Chhattisgarh border. The cousins had left their villages after being targeted by Maoists.
Samaru and Nirmal would do odd jobs to make a living in Navegaon. Samaru’s son Gopal is working at the Jungle Training centre (JTC) of Gadchiroli police where freshly posted officers are taught how to counter the guerrilla tactics of rebels.
It’s learnt that the Tippagarh dalam, now led by Yeshwant Boga, is likely to be behind the killings. Sources also said that the Maoists had strewn pamphlets and erected banners near the bodies.
Dhanora division SDPO Vikrant Gaikwad said he is awaiting a full report on the incident. “Police are trying to ascertain if the two were shot elsewhere and their bodies dumped at the spot,” he said.
